We would like to involve all people of good will aware of the passing of time and the need for active aging as well as knowing the cultural changes that occur in dogs and other household pets.
The project, called Better Together is designed to help the elderly people to own and keep – without fear, concerns or burdens – dogs, who in return can become a good motivation for staying active.
The project mostly involves volunteers, who will be divided into 4 groups. The leading group shall consist of people who have the capabilities and expertise to both quickly adapt such pet and acclimate the participating elderly person to future living together.
Together with organizations and individuals working for dogs and humans prosperity will organise free training of behavioral therapy on basic level.
Volunteers could, in specific circumstances and for a limited time, support the older person in the care of the dog. It is not about complete laying off responsibilities but it is about to provide help in unexpected or difficult situations. This group of volunteers seeks the brave, loving dogs and open-minded people. The people who are not afraid to participate in discussions about problems such as excessive genetic interference, so-called breed improvement, causing the risks of diseases, who will be fighting against stereotypical views that any change of the environment or the owner is a trauma for the dog. But above all people we need are those who would like to spread awareness that dogs love and are committed to work for a man and there is a common need for such knowledge.
The second group, to which we invite volunteers will be a group of people who are very creative. If you cannot remain indifferent to the future and quality of life both dogs and elderly people, but you are not able to be actively involved, you may volunteering by sharing your experience and knowledge about fundraising and how to gain funds. On this field among major tasks will be to: create a database of dogs for adoption and shelters, both with a database of older people who wish to take part in a project as well as to promote the idea by encouraging older people to participate in it. More than welcome are individuals with the IT basis or experience, but above all possessing the ability to search for potential sponsors to ensure financial security of the project.
The third group – a direct donor, transferring both financial resources and other material possessions, such as : pet food and accessories. The activity of this group will be focused also on the new or used items and services’ acutions, bidding on the project website Better-Together.ie through which the raised funds will be forwarded directly to the needs of the program.
The fourth group – volunteers who wish to participate and help in the project global expansion.
